CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Along with the usual CrossFit Games competitions like those for men, there will also be events for women. The women's competition, Pegboard contests, Cutting system and Reebok equipment are all well-known. But, do you really know what to expect? Continue reading to learn more! Keep checking the CrossFit news section for the latest updates about the competition.
Competition for women
The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne Koski was the winner in the first race. Tia Clair Toomey Orr was also victorious. After maintaining her lead throughout competition, Koski was declared the overall winner. Tall finished second and Eramoo O’Connell third, respectively. It was the first Games event by women. The women's side wanted to complete the podium.
The women's competition features top-level female athletes. The field includes nine athletes. One of them is a 19-year old powerhouse, who won the Australian competition last year. Kara Saunders (Australian athlete) finished second in Australia. She was also eleventh worldwide for 2020. Another rising star is Andrea Nisler, who competed in the team division in 2018 and finished third in the United States and fifteenth overall in 2020. These athletes will be joined by Sara Sigmundsdottir from Iceland, who was awarded the first place medal at the World Crossfit Games earlier in the year.
Pegboard contest
Pegboard was an original feature at Crossfit Games 2021. The Games added it to their summer Olympic program, along with double-unders (dumbbell overhead squats) and pegboard. With 30 wins, Toomey-Orr holds the record for the most Games events won. Sager won Event 11 and became the Games' third winner. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

CrossFit Games is a training program that focuses on 10 general fitness skills. These include strength, flexibility, power and speed as well as cardiovascular endurance. The Pegboard contest tests a competitor's grip strength and coordination. Competitors hold two wooden pegs between each hand and compete to win. The Pegboard was a fierce competition that left the athletes feeling proud of their accomplishments.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games uses a cutting system to judge individual competition. It's not as extreme as the cuts used in past Games, but still very different than this year. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. The question is: How will CrossFit adjust points after cuts? The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.
This year's field consists of 236 athletes, making it the largest in the history of the CrossFit Games. The first six events result in major cuts. The field is then reduced to 75 athletes. The top 30 then compete in a sprint couplet to determine the top ten. The top 20 competitors then compete for the remaining six events. Veteran Games participants criticized Castro's system, claiming that the cuts were too drastic.
Reebok equipment
Reebok has announced new sports shoes, clothing, and other equipment for the CrossFit Games. Nano X1 will be the new shoes. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Reebok calls the shoe "the shoe of health," but it is more like a traditional trainer shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoe's responsiveness is enhanced by the RopePro tech and a firm midsole.

CrossFit's contract with Reebok will expire at the end 2020. The Games will no longer have a title sponsor. Reebok has sponsored the Games for more than a decade. It is now evident that their involvement in the Games will decrease. Reebok won't be funding the Games' prize fund, but will continue making all athletic apparel and equipment worn athletes by, including the Reebok gear. However, the company will no longer refer to itself as the "Reebok CrossFit Games" as it does now.
