CrossFit Games 2021 have arrived and many CrossFit Games 2021 competitors are thrilled. Apart from the usual men's and ladies' competitions, there will be some women's events. We all know about the Reebok's equipment, Pegboard contest, cutting system, and women's event. However, we don't know much. Continue reading to find out! Keep checking the CrossFit news section for the latest updates about the competition.
Competition for women
The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne Koski was the winner in the first race. Tia Clair Toomey Orr was also victorious. Koski took the overall title after she held her lead through the entire competition. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. This was the first Games event for women and the women's team hoped to finish the podium.
The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field includes nine athletes, including a 19-year-old powerhouse who won the competition in Australia last year. Kara Saunders, an Australian athlete who finished second in Australia in the team division and eleventh overall in 2020 is another contender. Andrea Nisler (who competed as a team in the 2018 division, finishing third in the United States and fifteenth overall for 2020) is another rising star. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).
Pegboard contest
Pegboard contest at Crossfit Games 2121 was a new concept. Along with dumbbell overhead squats and double-unders, it was included in the Games' summer Olympic programme. Toomey-Orr, who won 30 games events, holds the record of most wins in one Games event. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. There were several ties in the contest, but Toomey-Orr's dominance was not enough to keep him out of the win.

CrossFit Games is a training program that focuses on 10 general fitness skills. These include strength, flexibility, power and speed as well as cardiovascular endurance. Competitors are tested on their grip strength and coordination in the Pegboard contest. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. The competition was fierce, and the athletes were left feeling a sense of accomplishment after completing the Pegboard.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games will use a cutting system again for individual competitions. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. Because the competition is made up of 15 events, a cut to 30 athletes after the seventh or eighth event is very likely. CrossFit must also answer the question of how it will adjust the points following cuts. The scoring table used during the 2019 games was almost identical to that used in 2021. It is likely that this will continue.
This year's CrossFit Games field includes 236 athletes. It is the largest ever. Major cuts are made at the six initial events. The field is reduced down to 75 athletes. The top 30 then compete in a sprint couplet to determine the top ten. From there, the top 20 athletes compete in the remaining six events. Castro's system was strongly criticised by former Games participants, who felt that cuts were too substantial.
Reebok's equipment
Reebok announced new CrossFit Games footwear, clothing and other equipment. The Nano X1 are the new shoes. They are designed to suit multiple fitness requirements. Reebok describes this shoe as the "shoe of fitness", but it actually feels more like an ordinary training shoe. DuPont’s Kevlar material is used to make the upper of this shoe, which promotes breathability as well as durability. The firm midsole and RopePro tech enhance the responsiveness of the shoes.

Reebok's contract with CrossFit will end at the end of 2020, and the Games will be without a title sponsor. Reebok has sponsored the Games for more than a decade. It is now evident that their involvement in the Games will decrease. Reebok will not fund the Games' prize pool, but it will still make all the equipment and apparel worn by athletes, even the Reebok gear. The company won't refer to itself as "Reebok crossfit games" anymore.
